Church Archaeology

Whereas local government is largely responsible for the application of Planning Policy Guidelines 15 and 16 when archaeological remains and/or historic buildings are liable to be affected by development, the archaeology of churches and churchyards belonging to the Church of England comes under the jurisdiction of the Diocesan Archaeological Advisor.

Church archaeology requires not only a Faculty allowing the proposed work to go ahead, but generally a more sensitive approach to the archaeological remains and the Parochial budget. ASC has a dedicated team of archaeologists who are highly skilled and widely experienced in all aspects of church archaeology. With staff specialising in ecclesiastical buildings and osteology, ASC can guarantee highly professional archaeological services at extremely competitive rates.
